I realise that technically, this blog is all about my writing, in other words - my books but, it is also sometimes (as in this case) about what I think. Hey, don't blame me, I am doing this for you, so that you can gain a better and clearer idea of what makes me tick (who shouted out, Pacemaker) Grrrr. Right then, onto my blog entry: Lettuce - Plah! I reckon lettuce is nothing more than gay cabbage (and that is not a slur on gay people, at least I hope not. Lettuce is finer in texture than its leathery cousin, much more showy, and far lighter in its energetic composition. And they are its only good points (again, in my humble opinion). On the downside, and the whole point of my Lettuce lansing attack, is that it has to be one of the most unsubstantial and tasteless vegetables that one can eat - boring and watery - and then there's Rocket! What is it with Rocket? (Arugula as it is more widely known). To me it tastes bitter, slightly peppery mixed with a dash of diesel - in other words, ghastly!!! Finally, in regards to salad vegetables, supermarket tomatoes. Forced, unloved and consequently, tasteless. Compared to the home-grown tomato, nurtured, well tended, out in the sunshine as much as the rain and the result? Sweet as the fruit it is. Gripe over!
Now, regarding my books. I had a brainwave today, or should I say a literary epiphany - I shall be writing a sequel to The Collected Tales of Nathaniel Darcy. This second volume will follow Mark and Minty as they leave school and take up their first jobs. Marks job, working for an antique dealer, will be short lived but nonetheless, rewarding. There will be more restless spirits, mysteries and potential treasure to be found. Minty will also find herself dealing with a troublesome spirit when she starts out as an intern at a costume department of a local television station. Both Mark and Minty will still be competing with each other, trying to each impress Nathaniel with their increasingly weird stories but, as usual, it is Nathaniel's stories that really throws up a dozen or more probing questions that the twins hope will be answered when they head back overseas to stay where Nathaniel lodged during World War 2 with his mother, in Switzerland. I can even see the cover artwork in my head, at least, the typography part and I shall start working on that over the next few days. So, talk about hot off the press - from my brain an hour or so ago, straight to whoever is reading this! That all f, f, f, folks! For now :-)
